Tribal Affiliation: Aquinnah Wampanoag
My name is Jason Widdiss, and I’m an Aquinnah Wampanoag wampum artist. While apprenticing under my father in my late teens/early 20’s, I fell in love with the freedom of making wampum. I was able to travel and make a living, while also connecting with my homeland and ancestors. Now wampum gives me the freedom to spend time with my wife and four children.

Over the past 20 year I’ve had the honor of being featured in numerous newspapers and magazines, including native peoples magazine, headed an international wampum belt project, and opened a native art gallery, Wayward Wampum LLC.

With every piece of jewelry I make my goal is to provide a tangible link to the rich history of the Wampanoag nation. And most importantly, remind the world that We’re Still Here!
